Hello! My Name Is Blotto: THE MOVIE!

poster for Hello! My Name Is Blotto: THE MOVIE! The legendary story of one of the 1980s' most unlikely rock heroes comes to life in the award-winning documentary, Hello! My Name Is Blotto: The Movie!, directed by multimedia artist and longtime band friend Rob Lichter, AKA Bert Blotto

This fun, heartfelt documentary chronicles the rise, fall, and enduring spirit of Blotto, the quirky new-wave / comedy / rock band that won over national audiences in the 1980s. From their beginnings as the Star Spangled Washboard Band in the 1970s, to their heyday as Blotto with sold-out tours and MTV fame, and even through their decades-long afterlife as cult icons, the film is a joyous look at the timeless struggle—and occasional triumph—of “making it” in show business. The music video for their surprise hit “I Wanna Be a Lifeguard” was the 36th music video ever aired on MTV, and received heavy rotation, followed by their next big hit, "Metal Head," which was featured in many MTV spots at the time. As Martha Quinn states in the film, "They were fun, but they weren't a joke." Along with 50 years' worth of archival footage, the film features new interviews with the band, as well as with MTV VJ Martha Quinn, Blüe Öyster Cült's Buck Dharma, Jackie "the Joke Man" Martling and many others. The film screening will be immediately followed by a moderated Q&A with the band and the film's director. Visit Blotto at www.blotto.net.
